Many responses to my "Acne" newsletter

I received many e-mails, phone calls and consultation requests since I published my last newsletter on the topic of "Acne".

Today, 28 year old Amanda comes to see me for a consultation. Her mother had forwarded her my last newsletter.

The letter from a very concerned mother in my last newsletter evoked similar concerns in both mother and daughter.

Amanda started developing acne "out of the blue". She went to see her medical doctor for assistance and help.

  • Guess what happened. You guessed correctly.

Over the past 6 months Amanda has been on one antibiotic after another. She is currently on still another one. None of them appear to have the desired effect of resolving her acne problems.

Actually, several "new" symptoms have appeared over the past 3 to 4 months

  • craving sweets
  • exhaustion
  • weight gain
  • skin eruptions
  • waking up tired

The next step - after the current antibiotic proves to be ineffective as well- Accutane

How "nice", how predictable. This progression appears to be the typical process encountered by most acne sufferers.

Here are a few comments:

  • Acne is not due to a antibiotic deficiency
  • Acne is not due to a Accutane deficiency
  • In my mind, prescribing antibiotics simply covers up diagnostic helplessness
  • In my mind, prescribing Accutane simply covers up diagnostic helplessness

Unfortunately, we live in a medical world of symptom suppression at any cost.

Acne is a symptom of some underlying imbalance.

The only questions to ask with acne, or any presenting health problem:

  • What is the cause?
  • What underlying imbalance and/or organ malfunction causes the symptoms?
  • What stresses the body
  • What keeps the body from healing?
  • How can normal function be restored or at least be improved?

Symptoms are a call for change!

Imagine yourself driving your car. The oil warning lamp (symptom) comes on.

  • You could cover up the warning lamp with tape, paint it black or unhook the wire to the lamp. This way you would not notice anything. The symptom is gone! Or you could simply ignore it. Sooner or later, however, your car might not run so well anymore, or not at all.
  • The proper response would be to pull over as soon as possible to find the cause for this warning light (symptom). The cause could be a simple malfunction or a more serious problem.

Typically, the earlier you address the underlying malfunction the less extensive the damage and the less costly the repairs.

What is wrong with antibiotics?

  • Antibiotics are massively over-prescribed in the US
  • Antibiotics kill all bacteria - good or bad
  • You need a healthy intestinal bacterial flora to be healthy
  • Antibiotics destroy this healthy intestinal flora
  • Antibiotics create digestive problems
  • Antibiotics lead to candida overgrowth
  • Antibiotics weaken or can even destroy your immune system
  • Antibiotics can destroy your health and make you miserable
